It’s been a while since I posted anything.   I’ve been making.  At the beginning of February I resolved to make a present for my dear friend and benefactor Michaela.  She is also interested in Citizen’s Income.   I  had had a conversation with her about the space between people maybe being a useful visual concept in exploring the subject. I set myself the challenge of making something which reflected the space between us.  Her hugs are some of the best, so a cushion seemed a good start.  My friend Michael had given me The Book of Joy by Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama with a profile photo of the two of them on the cover.  I did a drawing without looking from the photo and so it began.  The forms are inspired by the Armenian question mark. This is  a shape I got interested in while developing a proposal for a public artwork in Stirling University.   Michaela came and spent a morning with me, walking the hillside inspired by Richard Serra’s iconic work Shift, which is also about the space between people.
